Here, Now, Held: Cultivating Dual Awareness
Teri McGovernNintzel | OCT 7, 2025
Dual awareness is the capacity to hold two experiences at once: present-moment cues of safety in the body, and challenging internal sensations, emotions, or memories.
With enough awareness of safety in the here and now, we can turn towards difficult experiences without overwhelming our nervous systems. Dual awareness supports self-attunement and connection, widens the window of tolerance, and helps us experience our bodies as a resource for navigating distress more often, rather than always being hijacked by it.
Dual awareness is cultivated through orienting to the here and now, engaging our senses, mindful movement, and awakening sensation in the legs and feet.
With consistent practice, dual awareness transforms our relationship to experience, guiding us from reactivity to presence, from overwhelm to embodied resilience, and widening our choices to include more of the full richness of life in each present moment.
Thank you for your Practice!
